Make Yourself the Perfect Summer Time Sangria

There’s nothing more relaxing in the summer than a sunny day, sitting poolside with a sangria in hand. Whether it’s the weekend or another “Wine Wednesday”, sangria is the perfect refreshing beverage. Lucky for us, summer isn’t over yet and sangria is pretty easy to make at home.

Sangria, rooted in Spain, has become a popular and refreshing party drink all around the world and there are many different variations of this traditional red wine punch. It seems every restaurant has its own mixture of sangria, and that’s just the thing, don’t buy a mix from the store make it home and add your own flare. Here are a couple of the best summertime sangria recipes for you to make at home and alter just the way you like.

Sunshine SangriaChardonnay

1 bottle Lindeman’s Bin 65 Chardonnay

2 Tbsp. sugar

2 oranges, sliced

½ lb. fresh strawberries, sliced

1 peach, chopped

1 lime, sliced

2 oz. triple sec

10oz seltzer water

First, you want to muddle the bottom of a large pitcher with sugar, oranges, strawberries, peach and lime slices. Next, you’ll want to pour wine, triple sec and seltzer water into the pitcher and stir. For best results, refrigerate overnight and serve in a tall glass over ice with your best friends. The next recipe is a more traditional red sangria if that’s what you’re into. But again, like I said, it is encouraged that you make your sangria based on what you will like best – it’s your drink!

Red SangriaShiraz

½ apple, cored, skin on, chopped into small pieces

½ orange, rind on, sliced into small pieces, large seeds removed

3-4 Tbsp. organic brown sugar

¾ cup orange juice

1/3 cup brandy

1 750 ml bottle of Lindeman’s Bin 50 Shiraz

For this recipe, you want to muddle the bottom of a large pitcher with apples, oranges, and sugar with a wooden spoon for about 45 seconds. Then, add orange juice and brandy, muddle for 30 more seconds. Add red wine, stir and taste. Adjust the flavor as needed. Once complete, add ice, stir once more and chill. If you want to get real fancy you can garnish with orange.
