Historic Lawrenceburg, IN distillery, MGP, is branching out. Master Distiller, Greg Metze has spent his nearly 40-year career at MGP. And now he’s combined his passion with his natural sense of what makes a great whiskey. Introducing Metze’s Select.
Metze’s Select combines some of MGP’s favorite whiskeys to produce a well-balanced bourbon. Metze’s features a Lawrenceburg-style high rye characteristic that combines spicy notes with creamy vanilla and caramel. The 2015 medley is comprised of:
38% 2006 Bourbon (21% Rye)
3% 2006 Bourbon (36% Rye)
59% 2008 Bourbon (21% Rye)
Sweet from the start, the nose has notes of butterscotch, chocolate, and menthol. The palate takes that sweetness and has a creme brulee character, with hints of cinnamon, nutmeg, brown butter, and some cherry on the finish. At 93 proof Metze’s is manageable without water — and the alcohol really just serves to boost the spicy component.
